Michelle Chance qualified as a solicitor in September 2000 after completing her training contract at a niche litigation practice in the West End. On qualification Michelle moved to City law firm Fox Williams where she worked closely with Ronnie.
She is an experienced and enthusiastic employment and partnership lawyer. Michelle has acted for many high profile corporate and individual clients in complex and sensitive employment and partnership matters.
Michelle has wide ranging experience of mediation and Employment Tribunal litigation including discrimination, wrongful and unfair dismissal, redundancy and whistle-blowing claims, as well as senior executive terminations, employment-related FSA matters, bonus issues, TUPE and restructurings. Michelle enjoys drafting employment contracts and staff handbooks. Michelle has recently advised corporate clients about breaches of restrictive covenants by ex-employees and protection of their confidential information, managing under-performance and age discrimination issues. She has advised a number of partnerships about mergers, managing out under-performing partners and individual partners about their retirement terms and partnership moves. She has drafted partnership and retirement deeds.
Michelle is named the "Associate to Watch" for partnership dispute resolution in the 2008 edition of Chambers UK, a leading independent guide to law firms in the UK.
Michelle is a newcomer to the tables and is described as "excellent and very capable" and according to sources "shows real promise".
During her career Michelle has appeared on live television and radio including the Littlejohn Show on Sky news, BBC News 24, Working Lunch on BBC 2 and Radio 5 Live Drivetime. Michelle has frequently spoken at client seminars. Articles written by her have been published in the Independent, the Times on-line, Personnel Today, People Management, the Employment Law Journal, Employers Law, The Lawyer, Legal Week, E- Financial News, Complinet, HR Law, Call Centre Review and Company Magazine. She co-authored two chapters of books on restrictive covenants and the employee's duty of fidelity for the American Bar Association.
Michelle was a founder member and secretary of XBHR, a cross-border organisation for HR professionals. She is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association, the Association of Partnership Practitioners and the International Bar Association.
Outside work Michelle enjoys ballet, opera, theatre, cinema, eating out and foreign travel having visited India, China, Oman, South Africa, Mauritius, Iceland, Israel and various countries in Europe. Most of all, Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband and being "Mummy" to her daughter, Jasmin, who was born on 7 May 2006.
