Ronnie Fox in a tank

They are changing the guard at City employment and partnership firm Fox Lawyers – the second high- profile City firm to take the name of founding lawyer Ronnie Fox (the other was Fox Williams). Obiter wondered if after a decent interval, Ronnie might be unable to resist setting up a third – but no. As Fox associates Catriona Watt, Caroline Field and Dean Fuller become partners in the rebranded ‘Fox and Partners’, Ronnie stays on as a consultant. It is not goodbye, then, but the transition needs marking – not least as the Gazette has what Obiter calls its ‘File‘o’Fox’. A favourite item is from 2008, when Ronnie – a motoring enthusiast and member of the Tank Museum Appeal Board – was snapped test-driving a Sherman tank. ‘The feeling of power when you put your foot down is amazing,’ he said, ‘it soared away… [but] it gets very hot and you cannot see properly.’

A bit like running a law firm? Watt, Field and Fuller are about to find out.

Our archives also reveal that Ronnie first wrote for the Gazette in the year Charles and Di got engaged and Botham won the Ashes. His latest article was published a fortnight ago. Can anyone beat that impressive span?
