Maree advises a range of organisations and individuals in both the public and private sectors in relation to contentious and non-contentious employment law matters.

Maree has acted as an external investigator in several employment matters and has experience advising clients on both the employer and employee sides of investigations and disciplinary matters.  Maree also has experience with civil litigation and contractual disputes.

Maree has assisted clients with the resolution of various workplace disputes and sensitive executive exits.  She regularly supports clients with grievances relating to alleged bullying and harassment, redundancy processes and discrimination complaints. Her experience advising both employers and employees in these complex disputes means she is well-placed to make strategic, as well as legal, recommendations to clients.

She has appeared on behalf of clients in the New Zealand courts and tribunals, as well as supporting clients using alternative dispute resolution, including numerous mediations. Maree’s recent litigation highlights include acting for a large organisation in relation to a contractual dispute which was heard in the New Zealand High Court and Court of Appeal. Maree also recently acted for an education institution in relation to a dispute regarding the interpretation of a settlement agreement.

Maree’s clients appreciate her down-to-earth approach and pragmatism.

Before joining Fox & Partners in October 2023, Maree spent five years working at a top commercial law firm in New Zealand, where she qualified in 2018.

Maree is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association, the Association of Partnership Practitioners and the Industrial Law Society.
